Evening all,
Have just returned from Coppice, i must say it has been an excellent weekend. The weather was rather warm as anyone who was there will confirm!!! (however i'l not say too much otherwise we'l be in for a washout at elvaston!!) Although there were only 5 or 6 engines present, it was a cracking little event, and a very enjoyable weekend. Woppit |

I agree with everything Woppit has written below.
What a cracking afternoon I've had at the Coppice event today even though it was a small event with 5 engines, the weather was beautiful (although as i'm writing this it's trying to Rain and Thunder ![]() A nicely organised local event and a recommended visit for next year if anybody is in the area. ![]() |

Sounds great, any chance of a show report?
I was trying to go but instead I was at Duxford at an LMA meeting watching RC Spits' and Lancasters. I suppose there's always next year! ![]() Thanks, Chris |

Il make this as short as possible, as im not very good at writing short reports, they usually turn into essays!!! Apologies for the lack of engine numbers, i have lost my Traction Engine Register!!!!
After arriving on the friday evening, Aveling KND Showmans Tractor 'Whippet/Lucy Glitters' was lit up, and then moved down to the ale tent, which served a decent pint at a not unreasonable rate (£2.00 pint bitter). The evening was spent generating until 11pm ish. Saturday was a very warm day, 5 engines were on site, Colin Brothwell's Ruston 'Hildary', which spent most of the weekend belted to the sawbench, Cliff Rodger's 12 ton Marshall S type roller 'Goolie', Foster Agricultural engine 'Sprig', Dave Cope's 3nhp Fowler Tiger tractor 'Lord Doverdale', An ex-Eddison's Aveling 'E' type roller (whos owner and works number escape me) and Aveling KND Showmans listed above. One miniature engine was present, that being the 4" Foster Road Loco owned by the Baldwin family. Vintage cars, bikes and Tractors were very well reprsented. Working demonstrations included wood sawing (with Hildary) and Stone crushing. A special event on the Saturday was a fund raising effort for Cancer Charities, which was a team of 40 people pulling Dave Cope's Fowler tractor from Ilkeston to the rally site, a distance of a couple of miles. Saturday was spent not doing a huge amount, although the ring parade took place at 3.30, followed by a road run to the Rose and Crown at Smalley Cross. The evening was again spent outside the ale tent generating light. Sunday followed pretty much the same routine, except there was an award for 'Best engine', which was presented to Cliff Rodgers for his Marshall Roller. Other awards were handed out for 'Best Showmans engine', and 'Best miniature', il let you guess who won them!!! Following the ring parade was a tug of war with Whippet/Lucy Glitters, and about 30 or 40 people of varying ages!! All in all, a good time was had by all, the weather was fantastic, the beer was good and there seemed to be a very good number of people through the gate. I hope this report is somewhere near interesting and not too long!!!!!! ![]() |
