There can be no more evocative experience for anyone beyond the first flush of youth than the sight, smell and sound of a steam engine working in a field or trundling down a country lane.
Now you can take part in this experience, and travel no further than Cricket St.Thomas.
The Sir John William is the name of the steam-ploughing engine built in 1889 and lovingly restored by John Jeffery, with the help of friends following his purchase of the old engine in1995. Sadly John did not live to see the completion of his labours and following his death in 2001, Betty Jeffery agreed that Johns friends should complete the work .Now all can now enjoy the results of their efforts.
The engine is now being look after on a voluntary basis by Richard Miles and Anthony Whitemore. To share the experience and also help raise funds for the ongoing maintenance of Sir John you can now participate, at modest cost, in the steam engine experience. You can help drive, stoke, maintain and generally enjoy being around a fine example of a steam engine which were widely replaced in general use on farms by petrol/Tvo driven tractors in the 1920s.
It can also be hired for weddings and other events.
For more information you can visit the web site-www.sirjohnwilliam.com or call Richard on 01460 30745.
